Leader: Kazuya Takahata

Given the intensification of global competition and the rise of countries such as China and South Korea, it is necessary to provide products and services with higher added-value in order for Japan to enhance its international competitiveness and the quality of life of people.

Focus

Technology convergence is becoming feasible because of the recent progress of the component technologies such as information technology, biotechnology and nanotechnology. By combining these component technologies with each other, it is possible to make breakthroughs for the solution of problems that were intractable using technologies in single, isolated fields.

Based on the ideas that technology convergence will be a source of innovation in the future, we are conducting a research, with reference to trends in the US and Europe, to make policy recommendations for the promotion of technology convergence in collaboration with the government and the private sector henceforth. We also support the formulation of corporate R & D strategies and corporate business strategies to deal with technology convergence.
